Mindset, Still Becoming

60 is the new “be whatever you want to be”

So … I did a thing to celebrate being alive and healthy at 60 – I booked a photo shoot!

I’d love to say with all honesty that I never fall into doubt about my relevance at this age, about putting myself out there, about being open about how many years I’ve been on this earth. There are times I look at my skin and wish it was smoother and tauter. I have a moment of forgetfulness and wonder if it’s a senior moment.

After all, as women, we’ve been told for years that 60 is old, that our worth, our value decreases with each number, that we need to fight every sign of aging, that we need to desperately hold onto youth.

And then I reminder myself, it’s all such BS – and I made a deliberate choice to celebrate the fact that I am still here – not everyone gets to live this long. I am still healthy in mind and body. I can dance, I can walk and run, I can play with Layla and my two beautiful little granddaughters. I can paint and sing – neither of them particularly well – although the painting is getting better with practice!

In just over a month, my daughter and I are heading to Portugal & Spain to fulfill a goal I set for myself years ago. We are walking 130 km of the Camino de Santiago – and spending some time before and after exploring other areas of those two beautiful countries. I mean … wow, right!? And more to come on that!!!

I am ONLY 60 and still have so many wonderful moments ahead of me.  Cheers to continuing to make memories and to saying ‘F U” to the lie that our value diminishes with age.

And for you. dear reader … whatever age you are – be you! Take up space! Don’t diminish your value, your worth. We are all given one precious life so make the most of it!
